Unaccompanied – Lieselotte Heil

The first time I heard someone singing an unaccompanied Appalachian ballad, the music went straight to my heart. I never imagined someday I’d be blessed to be able to learn and share this beautiful music with others. I am always deeply touched when someone comes up to me after a performance and tells me, with tears in their eyes, how my singing brought back treasured childhood memories for them – and the more often this has happened, the more compelled I have felt to record some of this repertoire. Although I love sharing my music in person, Gene has so wonderfully captured the “live” sound and vocal nuances of my singing that I believe these songs will still travel straight from my heart to yours.

The first six songs on this ep are my interpretations of traditional ballads. The seventh, “Hero’s Child” is one I wrote a few years ago. Although it’s a “new” composition, it hearkens back to the tradition of unaccompanied ballad singing and this ep seems a good way to introduce it to you.
