This is old time music played by folks who know it well. Features fiddlers from VA, WVA, VT, ME, and NH. This is clawhammer banjo player Malcolm Smith’s first CD and he features a wide selection of 18 tunes from a variety of Southern Appalachian sources.
Two great young fiddlers – Tessa Dillon from West Virginia, and Brennish Thomson from New Hampshire are featured as well as regulars from the Clearly Related String Band: Larry Warren (of Slippery-Hill fame) and Cork Washburne. Jim Kacsmarik, a fiddler from the Shenandoah Region also plays tunes in the regions’ unique style. Malcolm Smith shares over 25 years of experience playing clawhammer.
The tunes come from a variety of traditional sources as well as the haunting Jefferson Davis, composed by Norman Blake and the beautiful banjo tune, Holloway, composed by Hilary Dirlam, a long time teacher and performer of Old Time
